From Burnout to Empowerment — How I Found My Way Back to Myself Through Somatic Healing

I went from struggling daily with anxiety, depression, ptsd & being obese, to feeling energized, present, and losing 60 lbs in a matter of 11 months.

I remember feeling so disconnected from my body and brain, feeling like they had failed me. Every day felt SO incredibly hard and exhausting. I knew something had to give, but I had to idea where to start. So I started researching, trying to find out how I could heal without knowing what I needed to heal from. Finally, everything clicked together and I knew I needed to address the big old elephant I had been ignoring for years. Trauma. Childhood. Adulthood. Chronic stress.

And I did. Slowly but surely, every day I did at least one thing to help me heal. Release. Reframe. Rewire. That’s the framework I unintentionally followed.

I didn’t realize how powerful it was until I had lost 60 lbs, felt present in my daily life, and got compliments on my energy & my big shift in happiness. So in March of 2024 when everyone kept asking me what I was doing, I knew I had to write out the framework I had followed to get to this point.

I launched my healing course back in May and I’ve gotten to help 47 women work through the program. And their results were EVERYTHING I had hoped for, but somehow exceeded my lack of expectations because I wondered if I was going to be able to help others the way I helped myself.

What is somatic healing & why does it matter?

My therapist shared the polyvagal theory of trauma with me last summer that explained how our bodies change when we go from social engagement to (aka safe, calm - where we should usually be) vs fight or flight, & then freeze.

When you get stuck there, your body is literally fighting for its life. This is a subconcious reaction that kept our ancestors safe from bears. Many of us haven’t learned how to discern between a real life threat (someone pulling out in front of you) vs someone unfollowing you. I know in my experience, I’ve had the same anxious response losing followers as I did last week when someone cut me off. If we didn’t learn to feel our emotions, we can get “stuck” in that mode & then it happens more often.

Suddenly we’re dominant in stress response & can’t feel curious or hopeful - bc your body is fighting for its life. It decreases your metabolism, your IMMUNE RESPONSE & more.

When I was in the thick of burnout, I had no idea that healing could be so simple. I didn’t know how deeply my nervous system was affected by stress and trauma, or how powerful somatic healing could be in restoring balance to my life.
